Charity Newsletter July 2010

Summer is certainly upon us so I hope you're all enjoying the great outdoors!

I wanted to send out this note to let you all know what's been happening with AMARA and how the children at the Lotus Children's Centre are doing.

As always, our fabulous volunteers have been working hard to keep funds coming in.  The remaining stock from last years 'Designer Dig' event was successfully sold by setting up a stall in the shopping mall - bargain hunters swarmed around us all day which was manic but fun! The high end designer fashion items will appear on our eBay charity shop very soon.

Other friends of AMARA braved a balmy +30c day on Saturday 10th July and completed the 'Slough Together' charity walk which took us through pretty routes along rivers, wheat fields and quaint villages along the way.  Over £500 was raised on this day so well done and thank you to all those who participated.

Our in-field work is once again underway following some delays in Mongolia.  I will be travelling to the Lotus Children's centre in mid-August with the newest member of our team, Moon, from Malaysia.  Moon is the Director as well as a Trainer and practitioner at the Phytobiophysics clinic there and has also worked in Sri Lanka directly after the Tsunami to ease the traumas following that terrible event.  She is bringing her much needed knowledge and experience to AMARA and will conduct Phase 2 of our Staff Training Programme whilst the children are enjoying their break at Summer Camp just a short distance away from the capital.  Moon will then visit the camp and begin work with some of the children here as well as travel some 370km to the 2nd largest city, Erdenet, to provide much needed support to the 20 Lotus children who are cared for there.

The great news is that there has been some significant progress with children who were particularly effected by their past traumas and I am pleased to share that the behavioural manifestations of their pain is easing - a barometer of their healing.  As expected, the results vary from child to child and we are committed to providing each child with the individual attention that they so need.

I will also be taking care of the business side of things whilst I'm there.  The Lotus Children's Centre and AMARA are working towards securing a meeting with the Ministry of Health to ensure our work with the children is as smooth as it can be.  I am also presenting to some local businesses, mostly owned by foreign investors, to encourage them to support the therapeutic care of our children.

It's sure to be an intense time and no doubt that Moon will find this work has it's challenges but I am even more confident the she will find this new experience exceptionally rewarding.  I am also confident that the planned meetings will secure a stronger future for the Lotus Children.

Warm regards

Designer Fashion 'Sale of the Century' - Saturday 21st November 2009, My Hotel, Chelsea

We are holding a charity designer fashion sale on Saturday 21st November 2009 at My Hotel, Chelsea. Doors open at 11:00am and all proceeds from the sale will help us continue our vital work.

For further information and details see here

In Field Progress - April 2009.

In April '09, we were able to place our first Therapist in the field since our initial implementation and training took place in October and November 2008. Here's what our volunteer shared about the work with the children and her experiences whilst there:

'What a delightful, humbling and rewarding time I have just spent with the dear children, teachers, and staff of the Lotus Children's Centre.

The various Phytobiophysics plant remedies, which are a core tool to AMARAs Therapeutic Programme, were accepted easily and the Podo Rhacidian treatments (a mobilisation therapy to re-balance the body) were integrated quickly into their busy day to day lives. I successfully completed follow- up treatments from last Oct/Nov and the results indicate varying degrees of improvement, from those with notable progress to those showing little change. I also spent some time working with the kindergarten children and they are now all on the remedies. I felt it was important to treat these children so that the nurturing and healing process could begin in their lives as early as possible.

All of the Lotus Children living in the city of Erdenet were also treated with remedies and Podo Rhacidian. I also worked with the Kindergarten teachers who have embraced the use of the accompanying Art Therapy Mandalas and so spent some time assisting with these.

To increase the staff's confidence to independently contribute some support to the emotional needs of the children, I spent a day retraining and reminding them of the basic tools that they had learned and of the protocols required for successful results. The importance of their consistent efforts was reinforced.

There is a lot of great work going on here and it is vital for this Programme to continue, develop and become firmly embedded into their day to day lives in order to assist with and accelerate the children's healing process. I've had such an amazing time here, with the children, the teachers and everyone, that I am sooooooooo sad to leave! I have never done such fulfilling work in my life time and I am pledging to come again and to raise as much as I can for AMARA and the great work you are doing for the Lotus Centre! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.' Regina.

The staff at the Centre are now better equipped to offer some basic emotional care by using the key tools and methods that we have been able to provide through the training. AMARA and Phytobiophysics continue to remotely support the Centre with regular follow-up calls.

Next Step

Our aim is to place a Therapist in the field within the next few months. This will ensure that vital follow-up assessments and treatments are performed as well as an opportunity to work in more depth with the children than the local staff are able to offer at present. They will also offer continued support to the staff that have been trained. Thereafter, we hope to place a Therapist in the field every 3 to 4 months and we will run Phase 2 of the Staff Training Programme when the time is mutually deemed to be right. AMARA is dedicated to working alongside Phytobiophysics and the Lotus Children's Centre to ensure that we successfully continue with the core element of our Programme and implement any necessary developments to achieve optimal results.

In the meantime, we will be arranging some fun fundraising events so we'll let you know about these soon!

We thank you for your continued interest and support.

First Steps... - October 2008.

Phase 1 of our Therapeutic Programme was implemented successfully beyond our joint dreams with the Lotus Children’s Centre in Mongolia.

In October 2008, Anthony Mossop of the Institute of Phytobiophysics provided on-site training to no less than 7 enthusiastic staff at the children’s centre including the full-time nurse and doctor. They were taught about the basic theory behind the remarkable ‘Special Care’ and ‘Special Needs’ formulas, how to test the children and how to make up and administer the remedies. The centre is now able to independently work with the children to begin easing their emotional difficulties.

While Anthony remained in the field, he worked in more depth with the children using an array of formulas for quicker results for some of the more serious cases. This was accompanied by Podo Racidian Mobilisation Therapy which we found particularly helpful for the many children who wet the bed. Following Anthony’s departure, the training was followed up by 6 weeks of on-site support by working alongside the staff as they worked with the children as part of their everyday life at the centre.

During this time we saw some of the children complete their first month’s remedies and some showed significant improvements:

9 year old girl self harms when upset – although symptoms initially became more severe, they lessened within 2 or 3 days. The periods of no self harm were increasing and the severity was lessening. Over the 6 weeks the staff noted that her behaviour was calmer.

6 year old girl suffers from disturbed sleep and nightly bedwetting. Throughout the following weeks, the number of disturbed nights and bed wetting has been reducing.

16 year old boy experiences episodes of anger and violence and also suffers from seizures often brought on by extreme emotions. He has told us that he has been feeling ‘much less heavy in his head’ and generally feels ‘good’.

As with all the children, we will continue to work with the three children above and aim to assist them to reach a place of happiness, confidence and comfort. AMARA has continued to provide remote support since leaving Lotus, addressing any concerns and questions of the staff. Continuation is essential to the children’s well-being and therefore essential to AMARA and to that end we are delighted to be placing our next volunteer, Regina from Ireland, in the field from 6th April for 3 weeks. Regina has the essential Phytobiophysics and Podo training and experience to offer our programme as well being a Naturopath to boot! We are privileged to have Regina on board with us and wish her a productive time and great experience with the Lotus Children’s Centre and Mongolia.

YogaBeats - Sunday 7th September 2008 - Iver Village Hall, Bucks.

Our first major fundraiser had arrived!  Although the doors didn’t open until 2:30pm our day began before midday with much excitement and anticipation.

The AMARA team merrily went about setting up the stage, the light projections, mats and decorations without much fuss and we were ready and waiting for our guests to arrive half an hour before the doors were opened!

Guests took their places in the softly lit room surrounded by candlelit, gazing at the hypnotic projections before them…the DJ began the music and David Sye began the Yogabeats Session. Raj gently beat the dhol (Indian drum) for added atmosphere and travelled the room with his sound.  As the yoga became more intense, lively & energetic, so did the music and live rhythms before slowing down to a relaxed pace again at its end.

After two and a half hours of yoga the guests then thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian food and refreshments while chatting with friends old and new while a short film of the Lotus Children’s Centre in Mongolia, AMARA’s first project, played silently in the background, an opportune time to say a few words about the important cause behind this event.

The day rounded off with guests mingling and relaxing in the chill-out zone while some favoured a massage by one of the therapists – what better way to spend a Sunday.

The AMARA team marked the close of the successful event with a bottle of bubbly which also marked another key achievement – we had been given our Charity Registration number just days ago!!

We are delighted to share that this event has raised an astounding £518 which will enable AMARA to send further Trainers and Therapists to the centres as well as allow us to continue supplying the children with essential remedies.

Thank you all!
